A New Wave Young People’s group is here to help! If you are new to AA, sobriety, just coming back, or not even sure where to begin, here are suggestions and links to things we have found to be useful to us and our sobriety.

Literature
In AA, “approved literature” refers to books, pamphlets, and other materials that AA’s General Service Conference has officially reviewed and agreed reflect AA’s principles and message accurately.
Why it exists:
AA tries to avoid outside advice, commercial products, and religious or therapeutic messaging in meetings. Using approved materials helps keep the focus on AA’s experience, the 12 Steps, and recovery, rather than someone’s personal program or a treatment model.
Important distinctions:
• “Approved” doesn’t mean required. Groups are autonomous, and some read non-conference materials (like recovery memoirs, CBT workbooks, or prayer books), though it varies.
• “Approved” doesn’t mean “the only thing that works.” It just means the content aligns with AA’s history and traditions.
• Approval doesn’t change often. New pamphlets take years of discussion and conference votes.
